Myprotein Almond Butter Review

A healthy sandwich filling with is high in protein, fibre, minerals and essential fats; a great alternative to peanut butter.

I enjoy Myprotein's Peanut Butter range so having bought a few tubs, I thought I'd try the Myprotein Almond Butter as an alternative. These tubs are good value because they are large in size (1kg), can be used as a sandwich filling, in curries (such as Satay curry), in cakes and much more and only cost £9.99 (at the time of writing this). Almonds and peanuts are also fantastic for your nutritional plans because they are free from preservatives and rich in dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals. Below I will discuss the Almond Butter specifically and outline why you should give it a try!

Why you should eat almonds

They are full of numerous health promoting phyto-chemicals which offer protection against diseases and cancers as well as increasing your energy levels

They are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids which help to lower 'bad cholesterol' and increase 'good cholesterol'. They also contain concentrated protein and are good for your skin

They are an excellent source of vitamin E; containing about 25g per 100g (about 170% of RDA)

They are free in gluten and therefore a popular ingredient in the preparation of gluten free food formulas

They are packed with many important B-complex vitamins such as riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6, and folates, and they are also full of minerals like manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium.

Myprotein Almond Butter Review

I thought I'd give the Almond Butter a try this Sunday afternoon on my toasted bagels for lunch. When opening the tub you firstly notice that it is quite runny in consistency. This is due to a layer of almond oil which has been separated on the top however this is natural and you simply need to stir it back into the almond mix before application.

I was quite skeptical at first because I've never really eaten almonds and I only like a couple of nut varieties. Nonetheless, having now tried Myprotein's Almond Butter I have surprised myself because I now actually prefer it to Peanut Butter which has been a staple part of my diet for years!

One of the key aspects I liked about the Almond Butter was the ease of application and smooth runny texture. Some peanut butter's are difficult to swallow (even smooth varieties) because they are quite thick in consistency. The Almond Butter contains fine grains which means it is easy to spread onto your bagels/bread and digest. The taste is also not too overpowering and creates a really interesting roasted nut sensation inside your taste pallet. The nuts are roasted in their natural brown skins before being milled which produces the distinctive yet likeable taste. There is also no added salt or sugar which is an added bonus.

I would certainly recommend this as an alternative to Peanut Butter and is great to help you maintain a balanced diet - providing you with a natural source of proteins, carbohydrates and essential fats.

Is Almond Butter suitable if you're trying to lose weight?

I am looking to gain lean mass at the moment which means I am reducing my carbohydrate intake however it is still vital to consume some carbohydrates on a daily basis to keep your energy levels high and to help burn fat. I therefore eat instant oats with flaxseed in the morning and now Almond Butter with 1 bagel for lunch to ensure I get the necessary carbohydrates to maintain a balanced diet yet still lean up by reducing the amount a normal adult would consume.

Nuts mostly contain unsaturated fats, especially monounsaturated fat. This type of fat does not raise blood cholesterol levels like saturated fats. Monounsaturated fats have the additional benefit of raising high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol). This, in turn, reduces the risk of heart diseases.
